Andy Aldridge 29th October 2004

It is with much regret that the Club has to announce the death of our Bar Manager Andy Aldridge. Andy suffered an asthma attack on Wednesday afternoon and was rushed to Hospital. The Hospital was unable to resuscitate him and he passed away Wednesday evening.

Our thoughts are with his partner Zoe and his beloved children Jodine and Madison.

He will be sorely missed

There was a minute's silence in his memory at last night's FA Youth Cup game against Hornchurch and it is hoped there will be another minute's silence tomorrow at Uxbridge.

Under 18's through 29th October 2004

Our Under 18 team triumphed 4-3 over their counterparts from Hornchurch in a see-saw tie that saw them behind three times. The goals change from Bradley Ross 2, Carl Sanderson and the winner from Chris Clayton. The game was played in a torrential storm which included thunder and lightening and in front of our biggest crowd of the season for any match of 131. The Under 18's will now play either Chatham Town or Farnborough at Mayesbrook Park - the Chatham/Farnborough tie was abandoned last night with Farnborough leading 2-1 and will be played next Tuesday November 2nd.

Next opponents 3rd October 2004

A brief rundown on Fisher Athletic and Ilford who we face next :

Fisher Athletic

We face a tough challenge in the FA Trophy preliminary round at home to Fisher Athletic. Fisher top our division, five points clear of Uxbridge and fifteen points/eleven places above us. They have lost just one league game, to Waltham Forest away 3-1, and won the other nine. With 31 league goals to their credit they are averaging three per game while we are conceding just one per game on average and only two teams have scored more than once against us. An interesting prospect - the proverbial irresistible force versus the immovable object?

Their leading scorers are Steve Watts 13, Braithwaite and Lenny Piper 5 each and Michael Smith 4. They have beaten Tilbury 9-2 and Maldon 5-2 and also scored five against Eastbourne Town in the FA Cup before losing away to Bromley 1-0, their only other defeat this season. Piper is a former England youth international who has played for Dagenham & Redbridge, Watts played over 130 games for Leyton Orient and their squad also includes Mark Warren, veteran of 270 Football League games for, among others, Southend United, Colchester United and Leyton Orient. On Saturday they were held to a single goal victory by seventeenth placed Great Wakering Rovers, with Watts the scorer. Fisher were founded in 1908 and formerly played in the Pathenon, West Kent, Kent Amateur and London Spartan leagues and were members of the GMV Conference from 1987-91. Former players include John Bumstead (Chelsea) and Ken Charlery (Barnet).

Ilford

Following the incorporation of the famous original Ilford club into what eventually became Dagenham & Redbridge a new Ilford eventually arose at Cricklefield Stadium in 1987. They started in the Spartan League before switching to the Essex Senior and at last this season returned the illustrious name of Ilford to the (Ryman) Isthmian League. They currently occupy a mid table place at ninth with one victory from three games, having beaten Camberley Town 2-1, while in the Associate Members’ Trophy they have beaten Kingsbury Town 3-1 and Clapton 2-1. On Saturday, like us, they were involved in a five goal thriller but unfortunately lost 3-2 at Witham after fighting back to parity from a 2-0 deficit. Their squad includes Old Blue and prolific scorer Chris Stevens.

FA Youth Cup update 1st October 2004

Following their 3-0 win over Yeading on Monday the Under 18's opponents in the second qualifying round have been revealed. They are Thame United who beat Hitchin Town by two goals to one and should they be victorious they will face either Cheshunt or Hornchurch at Mayesbrook Park.
