Signing/Player news 29th November 2004

Many experts consider the central “spine“ to be the foundation of a successful side and Club Manager Dennis Elliott has strengthened ours by making two important signings to complement the superb goalkeeping of Tony Tucker. At Centre Half we welcome the experienced Chris Perkins, whose impressive pedigree includes first team action for Southend United, a season with Kettering Town which included a Wembley F A Trophy final and service with Ford United/Redbridge.

At centre forward we are happy to welcome the return of Niall Ritchie, who occupied this position in youth internationals for Ireland and made a big impression here before joining Billericay. He was at Tilbury last season but has been training with Saint Alban’s City recently. Both players participated in the 2-0 victory at Wingate & Finchley on Saturday. Ben Willis has happily recovered from his injury and was on the bench on Saturday but Sam Taylor and Wayne Vaughan need more time and Dennis Elliott does not intend to risk exacerbating their injuries by rushing them back too soon.

In the “sin bin” we have Ashley Marsh, who has accumulated five cautions and will be suspended for one game. Following their recent red cards, three match suspensions will be served by Michael Gorman from December 4th and Jay Devereux from December 7th.

Player news 24th November 2004

The best news to emerge from last night’s league cup defeat by East Thurrock United was the appearance of recent sorely missed casualties Sam Taylor and Wayne Vaughan on the substitutes’ bench, with Vaughan participating in the last quarter of an hour of the action.

Less welcome are the impending three game suspensions of Michael Gorman and Jay Devereux, following their dismissal in the last two games.

Player news 22nd November 2004

Declan Perkins has been released and we would like to thank him for all his efforts on our behalf this season.  Injury is currently depriving us of Ben Willis, Wayne Vaughan and Sam Taylor and there is no news of a definite availability date for any of them.

The winners are away to the winners of Waltham Abbey or Thamesmead Town v Sporting Bengal United ties. Looking further ahead the winners of that would have a home quarter final against Tooting & Mitcham United or Welling United, leading to a home semi final versus AFC Wimbledon, Fisher Athletic, Hendon or Croydon Athletic.

Chairman's message 16th November 2004

Chairman Peter Webster has issued a message which includes the following:-

“I would like to thank club manager Dennis Elliott and all of his staff for their superb efforts in keeping the club running following the sad loss of Andy Aldridge. It is at times like this that the community atmosphere which has been created at this club shines through. Our primary goal remains promotion and we are undoubtedly capable of reaching our target when one considers that we have played four matches against the top two sides, winning three and drawing one of them. There is a long season ahead and Dennis and I fully appreciate that we must continue to improve our efforts both on and off the pitch if we are to achieve our aims. The players have performed superbly in recent weeks but they must remain totally focused and maintain their commitment and work rate regardless of any circumstances we may face. Every player in our squad is critical to our success and I am confident that we have a squad of players who are all equally capable of contributing to our objective. This year’s youth team is sponsored by Property Facilities Group plc and as part of their sponsorship they are assisting with our intention to set up teams at under 16 level and below, as well as to provide coaching and training facilities for young people in the Barking and Dagenham area. Sportsmatch, the government’s sponsorship incentive scheme for sport, has awarded us £4,000, which is much appreciated. I will let you know of our detailed plans for developing this scheme in due course. “
