Tom Mottram with his award

Despite their final game of the season not taking place the Reserves did receive mementos as recognition in finishing runners up in the EHBCC. Photographer Lorraine Marraige kindly came along and took a number of individual and team line-up photos. These can be found by clicking here

We would like to thank Lorraine Marriage for coming along to Mayesbrook Park on April 26th and wish her well with her future photographic ambitions.

 A piece of history 15th May 2008

As a club we are aware of our roots and the forerunners of the current team. Recently on E-bay a fixture card for Barking Working Lads Institute season 1898-99 surfaced and was purchased by our Press Officer Derek Pedder. It was Barking Institute (as they were then known) who assumed the mantle of the town's senior football team in 1900 taking over from Barking Woodville and from March 1901 played their matches at the Vicarage Field.

Despite its age, the card is in good condition and thankfully the majority of results have been dutifully recorded. The BWLI team competed in two competitions the LF (London Federation) of Boys Clubs and the Leyton League. It would appear from the results of 18 league games played, 16 were won with two being "scratched", included in the scores were two that stand out – two of 16-0 and another of 13-0 and it would appear that they were well placed to win the Leyton league. Unfortunately, we have not been able to find any league tables to confirm this – however, the following season (1899-1900) they were indeed Leyton League champions. On the front page of the card two honours are listed which indicate that the BWLI side was in existence for season 1897-98. The results have now been incorporated into the archive section of this website.

We are always interested in archive items relating to the club and to complete a number of missing records that we have. Of particular interest at the moment are team line-ups from prior to season 1969-70 and team photos
from days gone by.
If anybody has any press cuttings, photos or other material they would like to lend or donate we will be happy to hear from you. Please e-mail archive@barking-fc.co.uk for further details.

Reserves final result clarified 15th May 2008

The Reserves were unable to play their final league game of the season against Billericay Town as the opposition were unable to fulfill the fixture. We heard this week that the official result will be recorded as 0-0 draw but three points will be awarded to Barking. Thankfully this had no bearing on our clinching second place with 70 points, ten behind champions Heybridge Swifts.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Manager John Bowling and his Assistants Steve Toms and Michael Thompson for all their hard work since assuming responsbibilty for the Reserves last November. Also, as John and Steve have decided to move on we wish them well with their future endeavors.

Barking Ladies host another under 10’s football festival 15th May 2008

Barking Ladies held their second football festival last Sunday. Working alongside the Essex FA, Barking Ladies are promoting football for girls aged 9 and 10 in an effort to set up a local league for under 10 girls this coming September. Sharon Brownlie the Essex FA Football Development Manager for Barking and Dagenham and surrounding boroughs has been working hard to set up a local league ready for the start of the season. By holding these festivals (the last one was in April) it gets local girls interested in the game. Six teams played 4 x 4 football in Mayesbrook Park and all received a certificate from the Essex FA. The Ladies plan to hold another festival in July.

Any girl interested in joining in with the festivals should contact Debbie Moore on 07778 384478.
