Player news 30th March 2005

Following the welcome return of Sam Taylor at Great Wakering we still have Jon Higgs, Warren Haughton, Ashley Marsh and Ebow Mensah on the injured list.

Former Hornchurch Under 19 players Terry Everett and Ryan Doyle, who have been playing for our reserves after being signed by reserves manager Tony Myers, have been signed on first team forms and made their debuts at Great Wakering on Monday. It was a weekend to remember for Terry Everett in particular as he scored for the Reserves on Saturday and started for the first team on Monday. Both players participated in the heroic Hornchurch FA Cup victory at Arlesey Town after several senior players had left, with Everett scoring the only goal of the game.

Reserves unbeaten run 30th March 2005

After losing 1-0 away to Concord Rangers Reserves on January 8th in the Essex Premier Cup our second team, ably managed by Tony Myers, put together a superb unbeaten run of eight games until last Saturday when we lost 2-1 away in the semi final of the Fred Budden Trophy - to Concord Rangers. This should make for an interesting last game of the season on April 23rd when we are away to – yes - Concord Rangers. However, they got back on the winning trail again last night when they beat East Thurrock United Reserves at Mayesbrook Park 2-1 to extend their unbeaten league run to seven games.

Update on Ashley Marsh 24th March 2005

Ashley Marsh’s father Steve has issued the following statement : “On behalf of his Wife, Keeley, his Mum, Jenny, and "the old boy " himself we would like to thank everyone for all the kind messages/offers of help we have received-they have been really tremendous and I know Ashley has been really moved by them. He is currently on ward E6 at Oldchurch. He's had a rod inserted in his leg which is attached to the large bone to support it-the smaller bone will be allowed to heal on its own. The physios have already had him out of bed but he is still taking morphine for the pain." No details yet re discharge.

Player news 20th March 2005

Ashley Marsh, who has made 196 appearances for us - more than anyone else in our current squad - suffered a serious injury at Sittingbourne on Saturday when, as a result of a foul for which the perpetrator was sent off. He sustained two broken bones in his leg and was taken to the local hospital where the damage was diagnosed, surgery will be required and it is doubtful that he will play again this season. Sam Taylor was also carried off with a muscular injury and expects to miss at least two weeks. Warren Haughton also expects to be out for at least two more weeks and the injury list also includes Jon Higgs and Ebow Mensah, who hopes to be fit in time for the play offs.

The single item of good news on the injury front was the appearance of Steve Blaney on Saturday’s substitutes’ bench.

Fisher date confirmed/LSC update 15th March 2005

Our London Senior Cup semi final date at home to Fisher Athletic has now been confirmed for next Tuesday March 22nd kick off 7:45pm.

Hopes of a potential final against local friendly rivals Redbridge disappeared last evening as, according to the Wingate & Finchley website, they were beaten 2-1 by Wingate in the quarter final. Should we win our home semi final next Tuesday March 22nd against Fisher Athletic (London) we would play either famous old rivals Dulwich Hamlet or Wingate & Finchley at Metropolitan Police’s Imber Court ground on April 26th at 7.30

Suspensions/Player news 14th March 2005

We have now been informed that Michael Gorman and Ben Willis will not be suspended because their fifth yellow cards came after the end of February and will be available for the upcoming fixtures against Sittingbourne and Fisher.

Another piece of good news to report is that yesterday Under 18’s goalkeeper Mark Parker successfully completed his first game since breaking his arm. Welcome back Mark.

It was also a case of welcome back Mark on Saturday afternoon when former Captain, Assistant Manager and firm favourite Mark Lord graced our Essex, Hertfordshire and Neighbouring Counties fixture by appearing for Romford. Despite giving his usual 100% Mark was unable to prevent us winning 2-1

Reserves Manager Tony Myers has signed two members of the Hornchurch Under 19 side who played in the heroic Hornchurch F A Cup victory at Arlesey Town. Terry Everett, who scored at Arlesey, and Lance McDowell both played in the defeat of Romford on Saturday, and we were also able to welcome back Steve Howard for his first game this season after a long injury.

Ladies lose out in final 13th March 2005

Unfortunately the Ladies Team attempt to win the Essex FA's Women's Cup at Maldon Town FC this morning ended in defeat as they lost by 0-3 to local rivals Dagenham & Redbridge.

Player news 13th March 2005

We will have to face Sittingbourne next Saturday without the services of Michael Gorman, who has accumulated five yellow cards and is expected to be suspended. However Gary Waters will be available, having now completed his suspension.

We are also likely to be without Ebow Mensah, who is back on crutches and looks likely to be out for some time, which is very disappointing for Ebow and for the club. He joins Jon Higgs and Steve Blaney on the injured list.

There is also anxiety about Warren Haughton, who was carried off at Dartford on Saturday. The effect of his injury is not yet known. Ben Willis has also reached five cautions and is expected to miss the March 26th game against Waltham Forest

The good news is that Under 18’s goalkeeper Mark Parker is expected to play in today’s Pelly Cup semi final against Redbridge. Danny Wylie is cup tied and Mark is considered to have recovered sufficiently to play.

London Senior cup update 13th March 2005

Tuesday’s victory over Tooting & Mitcham United sees us in the semi final of a major cup for the first time since 1999-2000 when we played Uxbridge in the London Challenge Cup (as the Senior Cup was then known). We are at home on a date being negotiated by Secretary Mike Roberts to Fisher Athletic (London), who have been the pace setters in our division for most of the season, and who will be seeking revenge for their F A Trophy defeat here in September. We also had the best of the drawn away league game and we meet them again here in our final league game of the season, when a play off place could be at stake. Overall we have appeared in seven London Senior Cup finals, winning three, but our last final was in 1979-80 and our last victory in 1978-9.  Without wishing to look too far ahead , there is the exciting possibility of a final against our local friends and rivals Redbridge of the Nationwide Conference South, also the former club of Club Manager Dennis Elliott, Assistant Manager Jay Devereux, Coach Terry Beck and several of our players. Also Redbridge (in their last game as Ford United) narrowly defeated us in the Essex Thameside Trophy final last season. The other semi final sees the winners of the Wingate & Finchley v Redbridge quarter final, scheduled for Monday, March 13th, entertain Dulwich Hamlet. The final will be at Metropolitan Police’s Imber Court ground on April 26th kick off 7.30pm.

Sponsored walk 10th March 2005

The Supporters Club have arranged a sponsored walk for Saturday April 2nd prior to the home game against Leighton Town to raise funds for future ground improvements. The walkers will assemble at 12:30 at Bobby Moore's statue near West Ham United's ground at Upton Park. The walk will then commence down the Barking Road (of course), past East Ham and then onto the site of our previous home of the Vicarage Field. The walkers are expected to reach Mayesbrook Park around 2:30pm.

Sponsorship forms will be available from Mark Harris at every game leading up to the walk and will be available from the club shop at the home game with Waltham Forest on 26th March. We already have more than a dozen confirmed walkers and we hope that any supporters unable to take part themselves will sponsor a fellow fan.

Suspension update 10th March 2005

Michael Gorman has accumulated five yellow cards and is expected to be suspended for the Sittingbourne game on March 19th. However Gary Waters will be available for that game, providing that the game against Dartford on Saturday is played. Ben Willis has also reached five cautions and is expected to miss the March 26th game against Waltham Forest (unless we play on March 22nd which is the date that his suspension becomes effective and would be the game he would miss).

Good luck to the Ladies 7th March 2005
Next Sunday (March 13th) the Ladies First Team travel to Maldon Town FC to contest the final of the Essex FA's Women's Cup. This is the third year running the Ladies have reached the final and as last year their opponents are local rivals Dagenham & Redbridge. The match kicks off at 11am and hopefully they can return to Mayesbrook Park with the cup.
Player news 6th March 2005

We have signed promising young midfield player Jason Henry, formerly with Charlton Athletic, who has been playing for Puma FC this season. Jason made his squad debut on the bench on Saturday.

John O’Sullivan has completed his one match suspension but Gary Waters misses the next two matches. Jon Higgs and Steve Blaney are still on the injured list.

Dartford game rearranged 2nd March 2005

The postponed home match versus Dartford has been re-arranged for Tuesday April 5th at 7.45pm.

Suspensions confirmed 1st March 2005

Secretary Mike Roberts has now received from the Football Association details of the suspensions following the dismissals at Barton.

John OSullivan receives a one match ban and will miss the game against Aveley while Gary Waters is suspended for three games and will miss the home matches versus Aveley, Tooting & Mitcham United and away to Dartford.
