Reserves clinch runners up spot 30th April 2005

Following victory in their final league game of the season over Bowers & Pitsea by 3-0 and with their nearest rivals Canvey Island drawing the Reserves clinched runners up spot in the Essex & Herts Bordering Combination. A hearty well done to Manager Tony Myers, Coach Gary Philpot and all of the players who contributed to this success. The Reserves also reached the semi-final of the Fred Budden Trophy. The last six games ended in victories, scoring fourteen goals and conceding just one. This is even more remarkable as six or seven of the Reserves played in each of the last three first team games. Joe Turner finished as leading scorer with nineteen goals and was the highest scorer for the club at any level while ‘keeper Chris Clark has not conceded a goal in his last five games. Manager Tony Myers said “Gary Philpot and I would like to thank all the players and supporters. The players have been a pleasure to manage and coach and have done us proud. I have worked out that, had the league table reflected only the results from the beginning of October we would have been champions."

Supporters Club meeting 26th April 2005

Following Saturday's final home game of the season with Fisher Athletic there will be a meeting of the Supporters Club.

Reserves up to third 25th April 2005

Tony Myers’s Reserve side leaped from seventh to third place with an excellent 1-0 win away to previous third place occupants Concord Rangers on Saturday. This was even more creditable as six of the reserves squad were on first team duty at Tilbury, leaving the Reserves with just one substitute who had to come on after fifteen minutes. This was Jermaine Williams who made his first appearance for us and went on to score the winning goal. With just two games left a top three finish looks a distinct possibility.

It's the playoffs 10th April 2005

Despite losing 2-0 at Beaconsfield on Saturday our previous efforts were rewarded with a place in the playoffs as our only remaining challengers Boreham Wood lost to Erith & Belvedere 2-0. As things stand we will be away to Uxbridge on Mayday Monday May 2nd with the winners playing Maldon Town or Wivenhoe Town in the final on Saturday May 7th. Should we reach the final we would be away to Maldon or at home to Wivenhoe. This is based on current league positions and could of course change before the end of the season.

Player news 7th April 2005

Carl Bruce has received a suspension arising from a sending off in a reserve match. Reserve matches are under the jurisdiction of Essex County FA whose punishments are more severe than those of the County FA’s and Carl has been suspended for five weeks. The suspension is divided between this season and next, running from April 18th to May 1st and September 5th to 12th - which means that Carl could play in the play offs. Steve Blaney and Michael Gorman have been released and we thank them for their efforts on our behalf. Gorman’s long range goals in particular will stay in the memory.

Apology from Sittingbourne FC 7th April 2005

We have received a written apology from Sittingbourne FC on behalf of the Chairman and committee for the behaviour of some of their crowd following the foul which resulted in Ashley Marsh’s broken leg. They also sent a card for Ashley. The apology includes the following: “We are sorry that our first meeting was marred by the serious injury to Ashley but even more sorry for what happened as Ashley was carried off. I agree that such behaviour is inexcusable. I trust that you will not judge Sittingbourne FC by the actions of what I hope is a small minority."

Player news 4th April 2005

Following the welcome return of Sam Taylor and Warren Haughton we still have Jon Higgs and Ashley Marsh on the injured list. It is hoped that Higgs will be fit for selection next Saturday.

Our other injured player, Ebow Mensah, has joined Ryman League Premier Division side Heybridge Swifts. Although Ebow is unlikely to be fit to play again this season Heybridge made him a very good offer and we wish him success at the higher level.

Commercial Manager Debbie Moore said " We are very happy to be successful in achieving this grant; we would love to do more in the community and help girls from all walks of life. This grant will enable us to hold the open day, which is open to all girls/women regardless of age or ability. "

Ladies thank you 4th April 2005

The Ladies Committee and Parents of the Ladies first team would like to acknowledge the hard work and brilliant display shown at the Essex Cup Final on 13th March 2005.

The club is extremely proud that the girls whose average age is only sixteen reached the final, an achievement that many women who play football rarely get the change to play in a final, the girls did a wonderful job. Manager Steve Bernet said of the girls ' The girls were extremely proud of their performance; they held Dagenham and Redbridge for 43 minutes before they succeeded their first goal. The final score of 3-0 does not really reflect their commitment. My girls have grown stronger this season and Dagenham expected an easy win but they didn't get one'.

The Ladies are looking to increase their players and are looking for women age sixteen upwards to join the club in preparation for next season. The junior sections are also looking for girls aged eight upwards.
