After the game against Mauritius Sports the committee of Barking Football Club took time to say their thank you’s and give out some well earned awards.
Before the awards were given out committee member Mark Harris made a point of saying thank you to the first team for another good win but also for the hard work all the players have put in this year and the great entertainment they have given to the supporters. He also asked the supporters to give themselves a round of applause for the fantastic support they have given yet again this season.
He then welcomed Margaret Hodge, MP for Barking since 1994 who has helped the club enormously this season. The club are very grateful to her for the time that she has given to us and we wish her every success for her campaign for re-election on May 6th.
On Tuesday’s home game a presentation had been made to Craig Greenwood who had completed 100 appearances for Barking in the previous game. As a few people had missed it the first time and as Craig’s family were all present on Saturday we did it again! Craig’s sponsor and friend Steve Havers also wanted to make his own presentation to mark Craig’s achievement.
The committee were very keen to show their gratitude to the management team of both the first team and the reserves and so a bottle of champagne and a thank you card were given to Steve Munday, Neil Day, Alan Dickens and physio Alan Richards for the first team and Rob O’Brien and Jeff Sears for the reserves.
In another thank you flowers were presented to Yvonne Munday, Maureen Debenham and Sue Richards for the help and support they have given not only to the club but also to their respective husbands to enable them to do their jobs.
The first team squad wanted to get in on the act of saying thank you and in this spirit arranged to have pewter tankards inscribed with their thanks and these were awarded to Steve, Alan and Neil.
And so to the awards which were as follows;
Players’ player of the year - Dan Mackin
Manager’s player of the year - Dan Mackin
Committee player of the Year - Joe Turner
Supporters’ runner up player of the year - Ricky Mackin
Supporters’ player of the year - Chris Clark (pictured above with Margaret Hodge MP)
John Ford Trophy for loyalty - Rob O’Brien
For anyone that doesn’t know John Ford was a popular player and later Assistant Manager with the club who sadly passed away a few years ago. After his funeral it was suggested by legendary Barking manager Eddie McCluskey that a trophy be commissioned in John’s honour to be awarded annually for loyal service to Barking Football Club.
So it was very fitting that this year the trophy went to a member of the management team whose work this season has gone over and above his job description.
