The Under 18’s went down fighting tonight in the first qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup succumbing to ten man Northwood 4-2 after extra time - the scores being level 2-2 at the end of ninety minutes.
In the first half Barking were awarded a penalty for handball, but unfortunately Jay Simmons effort was saved by the Northwood keeper. Before half time the visitors had built up a two goal lead, but in the second half the young Blues fought back, Jay SIMMONS reducing the deficit. Following the dismissal of the same Northwood player who conceded the penalty for a second yellow card offence Barking equalised through Jay SIMMONS in injury time. The first half of extra time found the Blues on the front foot but unable to pierce the visiting rearguard, in the second half of ET it was Northwood who took control with two well executed goals and in the end the quality of the visiting bench proved the difference between the two sides. Northwood now go on to meet Clapton in the second qualifying round.
However, the Under 18's should hold their heads in pride of their performance which for much of the game matched their counterparts whose first team play at higher level than ours.
