No surprise that the weather was again the winner last Saturday, if only we could be as consistent. But it was a shame, I felt we were mentally prepared for Basildon and had seen a response to the events of the previous week. The lads had worked hard in training and wanted to put the Romford game out of their system, it wasn't the case so we need to re-focus once again.
It was back to basics on the training pitch, stripped down drills with lots of fitness and short sharp touches, even Steve's dreaded sticks made an appearance so the team knew they were in for a hard time. It wasn't pretty but it's what we need, you get out of football what you put in and on that premise the lads deserve a break soon.
Ironically, Clapton did benefit last Saturday, worthy winners against Barkingside, they've leapfrogged us in the table and that can only add spice to an already tasty encounter this week. Make no mistake this will be a hard game, ignore the Clapton threat at your peril as teams have found out this season, they play for each other and have real pace up front - dangerous ingredients for any opponents.
There were real fireworks when the two teams met in December, we defended too high that day and made hard work of a famous victory, have we progressed? - Saturday will tell.
