Can't quite believe it but pre-season is upon us already, seems like only yesterday we were packing up the cones, bibs and balls after a disappointing last day display at Hullbridge. Learnt some hard lessons that day mainly that's there still much work to do, Thursday night we pick up the pieces and hopefully start to build towards a successful season.
Tipped to finish as low as 17th in some of the prediction leagues but that's music to the ears, a copy of the predicted league table on the wall and no further motivation needed. Not sure that person was paying attention last year, form since November was top six, already the basis of a team that can challenge, players are staying around, add a little quality, hunger and experience to the mix and we could be flying.
A few names linked with us this year, but been around long enough to not count chickens until pen is put to paper, newcomers will have be as good as or better than we had last year and have the ability to gel within the great team spirit already built up, so at least we have a spec for what we're after.
Had a Managers/Coaches meeting last Tuesday and the feed-back was positive, aiming to have a more united First and Reserve team and that can only be good for the club. An exciting addition to the coaching staff but will wait for official press release before saying more, can only say he has his own cones and four footballs and has played a bit so more than welcome on all counts.
A few developments off the pitch, so an interesting and challenging season ahead, whatever the future holds need to focus on the pitch, look to finish a high as possible and see how things develop. Already had supporters working on the ground during the close season, shows great commitment and thanks to them for their efforts.
Enough talk for now, by Thursday Steve would have packed his fishing gear away and it's back to business, looking to build on what we started last year and hopefully take the club another step forward.
