September 20th - Sun, Sea and Sandiford - Southend/Basildon round up

It's been a good week all round, a terrific come back in mid week followed by a battling draw with Basildon after a last gasp Pyney penalty. Hopefully Tuesday saw a turning point in our season, down and all but out of the cup shortly after the break, the lads rallied, pushed Manor back and in the end run out worthy winners. Still need a minor miracle to get through but we put down a marker here, took the game to the oppo and showed a glimpse of the exciting potential at this club.

Built on this Saturday and deserved a half time lead courtesy of Ruel Sandiford's stunning early strike. Can't knock Basildon, came back at us hard and but for some heroics from Clarkey could have been out of sight. To our credit we kept on trying to play, even when behind and chasing the game, Dicko's influence here, encourages the lads to pass the ball at all times and it's beginning to pay dividends, got round the back for the penalty and Pyney's finish absolute top drawer despite the pressure.

So up to Gardiners Lane Tuesday and what a game in prospect, squad gradually increasing in size and good to see Migsy back in action for the last 20 on Saturday, a real handful for defenders and will hopefully give us a different type of attacking option as we look to progress this season.

Last word for the Boss, made some tough decisions Saturday but took the responsibility so with it the plaudits. Some very disappointed players not even on the bench, tough calls but they go with the territory if we want a squad with serous aspirations. Some big calls on the pitch as well and most of them paid off, left Pyney on when we could have made a change and what a decision that proved.
