‘Reffin Hell’ - Slow start suits Stansted
Disappointment here, three points slipped through our fingers in a game we could have won. Familiar story of late, some slack play in not dictating the tempo but compounded by two big decisions which went against us and effectively decided the game. Won't put forward a conspiracy theory although there feels like one at the moment, we have to look at ourselves, identify the problem area's and then put things right.
The big lesson is we can't rely on the officials, we've got to kill games off ourselves when the opportunity arises, their intervention is hopefully then irrelevant. Take my share of the blame as well today, changed the system and in some ways this made us easier to break down than normal. Wasn't an easy game all round, we all missed the Boss and I think we felt the pressure of expectation for the first time since November, stifled us a little when perhaps the message should have been -'just go out and play'- so learning curves for us all. Normal fluency and freedom to express missing and we need to get that back in remaining games.
Some positives as we did pressure the Stansted goal throughout the match, struck woodwork twice, if decisions go the other way could have been comfortable winners with the opposition bench complaining- but I suppose that's the beauty of football. Good response second half, drove Stansted back and dominated, very different game if penalty given and goalie sent off but that's already been well documented so we have to move on.
Pressure off at Takeley on Tuesday, want a performance from the lads above all other considerations, not expected to get a result so hopefully this will work in our favour. Do perform and we've got every chance, can match any team in this league on our day so write us off at your peril.
