Once again failed to take our chances and it came back to haunt us big time. Burnham stayed resilient to the end, clean sheets win championships so you can't begrudge them their place at the top as things stand. Very frustrating and I know the lads are very disappointed, more than matched Burnham and really deserved at least a point from the game.
Was always going to be a tight affair as respective defensive records would indicate, clear cut chances rare to find in this one so imperative to take them when they came along, once again we failed to do that so ultimately can only blame ourselves. Some very good forwards with goal scoring pedigree at this club and I’m sure we'll turn that particular corner at some stage of the season- hopefully starting Saturday. Did at least get some decent efforts on target but desperate defending and an inspired save kept us at bay against opponents who were always threatening themselves. Young Russ again looking the part and ironically beaten by a semi mishit effort in the end- terrific diving save first half and good to see his bond with Clarky developing on the pitch before the game- two good keepers pushing each other is a sign of most good clubs, we have that here no doubt about that.
Harsh lesson this as did everything to plan for 85 minutes, one moment of slack defending and its game over. Forward goal-side of Ducky for first time in the match, no cover and we paid dearly for that. Visitors did at least know they were in a tough game, celebrated their goal like they'd won the league and that's a backhanded compliment to us.
Will once again need to bounce back from a crushing blow and I’m confident the lads will do that Saturday. Tiptree come to us with higher league pedigree but will be disappointed with their points tally so far, a chance here for two underachieving teams to kick start their season so plenty at stake. Recently reached the fourth round of the Vase so some clue to their potential so no chance of complacency going into this one.
