A 3-3 draw on Saturday and everyone seemed to be unhappy. Maybe it's the increased expectancy or perhaps we're victims of our own higher standards - either way things didn't go entirely to plan on the day- but it was far from a disaster... In many way's it's time for a reality check, we've come a long way forward in recent months and this was a minor blip from which we can learn some home truths and harsh lessons.
Importantly we didn't lose, we weren't at our best but still battled back to earn a point when it looked as if we would return home empty handed. Credit also to Mauritius, forget their league position, they can play and gave us big problems. They had real quality in the middle of the park, slowly but surely dissecting our shape almost at will and perhaps deserved to win the game. That they didn't is our consolation there was at least a reaction second half and we finished stronger, the lads were disappointed and knew they could have played better - but they want to put it right and I’m sure they will - hopefully on Tuesday.
This followed on from a controversial match Thursday night; again we were not at our best but still held a 3-2 advantage at half time against a team very keen to hold onto the trophy picked up last year. Gave a chance to some fringe players and by and large they took it, Johnny Oli particularly outstanding in a re-jigged midfield, Felaise and Priest not far behind. Unsatisfactory outcome to this one with the game abandoned at a time when condition not dangerous to players or worse than earlier in the evening - draw your own conclusions from this. Needless to say I wasn't happy though I’m sure Brimsdown were and quite frankly who could blame them?
Onto Tuesday we've already had a taste of the oppositions speed this year, unfortunately it was across the car park when it looked like the recent encounter might go ahead - let's hope the weather has no part to play this time.
